Job Description
Risk Engineering has been a core speciality of our client for 40 years.
This opportunity would be to provide insurance underwriting of major installations which puts the emphasis on the quality of the facilities management, requiring a technically-biased assessment of design, systems and fire prevention aspects.
Key Accountabilities
- Account desk top reviews for underwriters for new and renewal business.
- Conducting site risk surveys at world wide locations.
- Maintaining own awareness and technical expertise in Oil, Petrochemical and Gas industry developments, including attendance/presentation at seminars and workshops and involvement with technical groups.
- Developing own knowledge of other industries through reviews and site surveys.
- Identifying business development opportunities.
- Producing internal and market (external) survey reports.
- Participating in Account/Broker meetings.
- Assisting the Engineering Manager in development of desk review systems appropriate to Power, Utility and other industries.
- Assisting the Engineering Manager in training junior Engineers.
- Collaborating with overseas offices and/or project teams in order to provide a meaningful information flow.
Key performance indicators
Decision Making Responsibilities
- Reviewing risk assessment programmes of clients and providing opinion to Underwriters on risk quality.
- Providing risk mitigation recommendations for clients.
- Providing improvement comments on other Engineers¡¦ reports through peer review.
Functional Responsibilities
Account Management (estimate 50 - 60% of time). This includes:
- Implementing service plans for international Energy / Power / Utility / Process Industry portfolio as required by Engineering Manager.
- Undertaking and completing survey visits, including report production, report distribution & recommendation follow-up for international Industry portfolio.
- Meeting / interacting with clients and brokers with respect to account Risk Engineering issues.
- Providing non-survey-related support (plan reviews, meetings, impairment handling, client questions, special visits, etc.)
Management / Technical Support for International Portfolio (10 - 20%). This includes:
- Provide general technical advice to underwriters and claims teams, interpret technical issues, etc.
- Maintenance of Engineering Loss Control System (ELCS) for international Industry portfolio (ensure all fieldwork due is accurately entered, final reports attached, etc.)
- Where appropriate, assist Engineering Manager to develop procedures and systems (e.g. rating systems, recommendation tracking systems, survey proformas, report formats etc.) to complement ELCS.
- Assisting Engineering Manager to train / mentor new engineering hires.
Development and Support of International Engineering Fees (5 - 10%). This includes:
- Identifying opportunities for engineering assignments.
- Developing relationships with brokers as well as existing and potential clients.
- Developing and delivering engineering presentations to brokers / insureds to facilitate awarding of engineering contracts.
- Assisting the Engineering Manager to identify and develop potential new fee business.
Field Inspection (30 - 40%). This includes:
- Manage inspection process (survey preparation and communication, survey execution and follow-up).
- Field Inspection work (includes risk-engineering surveys, joint visits with brokers, training / observation visits with other offices¡¦ engineers, etc.)

Additional Information
- Travel of up to 10 business trips per year.
Qualifications
Qualifications and experience
- BSc (Hons) Chemical Engineering.
- Experienced within the oil, gas and petchem industry area.
- Extensive exposure to the process, project and operational aspects of the business.
- Client facing experience with the ability to build effective working relationships with on-site managers, clients, etc.
- Exposure to international projects.
- Experienced in the use of Word, Excel and Outlook and other industry related systems.
- Experience of report writing and the ability to articulate issues clearly and succinctly.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
