Full Details

5-day course
Learn how to enhance the quality of your seismic data to get consistent and reliable velocity volumes

Objective

Geostatistics has become a key tool in geophysics, due to its proven added value for various tasks: seismic data quality control, noise filtering, velocity modeling, time to depth conversion, uncertainty quantification. This course provides a sound understanding of the geostatistical solutions relevant to accomplish these tasks.

Key features

Fundamentals of geostatistics. Interpretation of variograms in relationship with the geology. Criteria of data quality. Kriging for 2D/3D data. Factorial kriging and application to the filtering of artefacts, comparison of different surveys. Correlation between wells and seismic (TVD, TWT and velocities) and relevant methods for geostatistical depth conversion. To ensure a proper understanding of the concepts, 50% of the time is allotted to practical illustrations and exercises on real cases using ISATIS software.

Who should attend

Geophysicists involved in data interpretation and mapping of surfaces limiting the reservoirs. No prior knowledge about geostatistics is required.

Course content

  • Overview of geostatistics and its main methods
  • Variogram analysis and kriging of velocity data
  • Quality Control of seismic data
  • Filtering acquisition artefacts using kriging
