Introduction to ArcGIS for Petroleum Exploration

This 3-day hands-on short course/workshop is designed to introduce the basic concepts and methodologies of ArcGIS software to petroleum explorationists, including exploration and development geologists and geophysicists, petroleum engineers, and exploration managers. The course assumes no knowledge of ArcGIS or of GIS concepts, and consists of short introductory lectures followed by practical computer-based exercises that take participants from basic concepts to advanced topics. Examples used in the exercises are drawn from a wide variety of diverse worldwide petroleum basins. The course is taught by an experienced petroleum explorationist who has successfully used GIS software in his consulting business for many years.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Participants are required to bring a MS Windows based laptop computer to the course (Windows 2000, NT or XP only, Vista not acceptable for software), with a loaded version of the ArcGIS software (version 8.2, 8.3, 9.0, 9.1 or 9.2) plus Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. Participants who do not currently have access to ArcGIS should contact ESRI (www.esri.com), the developers of ArcGIS, about an evaluation copy of the software and should load it prior to starting the class. Course materials include a copy of the 'Getting to Know ArcGIS Desktop' workbook developed by ESRI. A complete set of course materials and lunches are included.
