ICoTA to announce winner at 14th SPE ICoTA European Well Intervention Round Table in Aberdeen
Competition was fierce for this year’s coveted ICoTA (Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association) Innovation Award, and six shortlisted entrants are now eagerly awaiting announcement of the winner of the ICoTA European Chapter Innovation Award 2008.
To be presented on November 18 by ICoTA European chapter chairman Alan Turner, this prestigious award will recognise a service company or operator that has applied technical innovation in well intervention, and that technology has either been developed or applied in the North Sea oil and gas sector.
Looking forward to the presentation ceremony, Alan Turner said, ‘ICoTA’s Innovation Award is the European well intervention community’s premier accolade, and highly prized. It recognises the development of new technology to help exploit the remaining hydrocarbon reserves in the North Sea – and as such we see it as an important step forward for the North Sea’s future.’
Last year’s winner was Baker-Atlas for their ground-breaking GasViewSM service, and this year’s judges have analysed a wide range of technologies when reviewing this year’s crop of exceptional applications. The 2008 shortlisted companies are: PI Intervention, Weatherford, StatoilHydro, Welltec, Red Spider Technology, and PetroTools.
‘Our 2008 short list clearly demonstrates the vibrant nature of technology development in the oil and gas industry around the North Sea,’ says Alan Turner. ‘We have seen a very broad spectrum of nominees this year, which is most encouraging – from very young SMEs to major multinational operating companies. Our judges had a difficult decision in selecting a winner, from a batch of truly excellent and original ideas.’
Chaired by SPE chairman-elect Chris Nussbaum, ICoTA is jointly hosting with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen section the 14th European Well Intervention Round Table event in Aberdeen on November 18 and 19 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. On November 18 the award winner will be announced to the delegates and participants at this specialist professional forum.
The SPE ICoTA European Well Intervention Round Table is Europe’s principal forum for exchange and discussion of the latest developments in completion and intervention techniques and coiled tubing technology.
New for this year is a pre-conference workshop focusing on the technology of subsea intervention.
Colin Welsh, CEO of Simmons & Company International will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday 18 November and the event will also feature for the first time a pre-conference workshop – hosted by BP – on subsea operation and the technology of well intervention.
‘There is real recognition in the marketplace of the importance of the innovation in well intervention technologies and it is recognised by this award,’ said Alan Turner. ‘It is essential for the future of North Sea oil and gas that we create the right environment in our industry to truly nurture innovation at the levels we will need over the coming years.
‘SPE and ICoTA are demonstrating once again that we actively support and encourage new and innovative thinking. I look forward to presenting the award and congratulating the worthy winner on November 18.’
The ICoTA European Chapter Innovation Award recognises the best and most innovative, value-adding applications of well intervention technology. These are inventions which have reduced risk, increased recovery, improved safety or minimised environmental impact. The award is highly regarded because it is judged by industry peers – all experienced practitioners in the area of well intervention and coiled tubing.
