Downstream Analyst – Oil Supply Focus

Role Purpose

The Supply Analyst will join the team responsible for forecasting short- and long-term global oil/NGL supply. Building on the deep knowledge of Wood Mackenzie’s regional upstream analysts, the role holder will combine field-by-field forecasts of long term production with political, technical and fiscal pressures to generate a twenty year supply outlook. In addition, the analyst will evaluate near-term influences on supply such as weather downtime, seasonal maintenance and unforeseen events to generate month-by-month forecasts. These deliverables are key components of the Global Oil Supply Tool and Macro Oils Service.

The candidate will build and broaden his/her existing energy knowledge towards becoming a recognized analyst of international oil supply and market-related issues.

Main Responsibilities

• Tracking data and contributing to the development of short and long term forecasts of non-OPEC and OPEC liquids production and capacity.
• Monitoring events impacting global supply and incorporating findings in the latest forecasts.
• Writing and updating Country Reports for the Global Oil Supply Tool covering the long term oil supply outlook.
• Writing for the Macro Oils monthly report covering regional short term oil supply forecasts; writing for the Long Term Outlook, published twice a year.
• Preparing the Global Oil Supply Tool for publication: uploading data and checking integrity with the assistance of the team’s Data Analyst.
• Researching and writing occasional Insight reports on oil supply trends and developments for both the Global Oil Supply Tool and Macro Oils Service.
• Contributing to the analysis of traded crude stream availability and quality forecasts.
• Developing contacts with upstream regional teams within Wood Mackenzie and with external organisations to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date supply analysis.
• Cultivating working relationships with clients, ensuring prompt response to queries raised and making presentations on supply-related issues.
• Supporting the consulting team with oil supply input to relevant projects.

Key Competencies

• A strong understanding of the upstream industry, preferably with knowledge of oil production trends, gained from relevant industry or consulting experience.
• Consistent attention to detail in both written and numerical work.
• Good problem solving and analytical skills consistent with analysing trends and movements in supply, and including first class Excel skills.
• Able to work independently and prioritise workload.
• Excellent communication skills, enabling you to relate to experts internally and to a range of personnel in client organisations.
• A serious commitment to excellence and meeting high quality standards expected by our clients.
• The ability to work as part of a team involving multiple locations and time zones, including willingness to travel to Wood Mackenzie and client offices.

The role would initially require some time to be spent in our Edinburgh office for induction purposes.
