A global exploration and production organisation that employs over 500 staff worldwide is currently recruiting a Materials and Corrosion Engineer to join their Mechanical Engineering Team. The team supports the upstream operations and projects with a focus on inherently safer design concepts, reliable materials, rigorous fabrication and inspection whilst developing and implementing up-to-date standards and sharing best operational management practices.
Job Description
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Materials and Corrosion Engineer will provide technical support to operations and field redevelopment projects. They will be accountable for the management and execution of R&D and technology programmes as well as the development and maintenance of internal company standards. The main technical responsibilities include:
• Root cause failure analysis
• Risk assessment
• Management of change guidance for materials selection and corrosion control issues
The Materials and Corrosion Engineer will also be required to mentor developing engineers and represent the company in external organisations and committees.
Education and Experience
Applicants must be legally authorised to work in the UK on a full time basis for anyone other than their current employer. They must hold a degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science or relevant discipline and have specialist experience in a corrosion and materials role within the oil and gas industry. Candidates that have Chartered Engineer status and who have specialist knowledge of the main corrosion mechanisms experienced in carbon, stainless steel and common non-ferrous alloys will be highly favoured.
