Commercial Analyst

SCOPE OF ROLE:
As a Commercial Analyst the candidate will be responsible for developing the company’s analytical capabilities. A significant element of this role will involve the development of the company’s market modelling and asset optimisation.

Reporting directly to the head trader the candidate will be expected to lead the development of fundamental and technical analysis to assist the development of trading strategies. Utilising qualitative and quantitative techniques the commercial analyst will develop and build mathematical models to assist and improve the company’s trading activities.

Equipped with a thorough knowledge of the UK power market the commercial analyst will lead and project manage the development of asset optimisation tools which will allow the company to enhance and lever value from its routes and timings to market.

REQUIREMENTS:
Educated ideally to a minimum first-degree level, preferably higher degree within a mathematical / Business related discipline.

Highly numerate with a good understanding and appreciation of the application of mathematical modelling and asset optimisation techniques. At the very least a working knowledge and ability to adopt statistical techniques to aid decision-making.

Thorough understanding and appreciation of the UK energy markets, ideally previous experience of the UK power markets within either a Front Office or Risk Management analytical discipline.

Preferable knowledge of the operating characteristics and dynamics of generating assets, with a particular emphasis on large coal and gas units.

Working knowledge of the UK power market, with an appreciation of the cascade from forward markets to prompt markets, to spot markets and then to the balancing markets and the cash out.


PERSON DIMENSIONS:
The candidate will be expected to display and continue to display all the necessary skills of a Trading professional and be expected to perform at the highest level.

The candidate must be a self-starter, committed and driven to deliver detailed confident analysis. It is essential that the Commercial Analyst can present findings assertively within the Trading environment, accepting criticism whilst promoting the merits and validity to the modelling.

As a committed team player it is expected that the candidate will display initiative and be able to lead and manage projects within strict time schedules.
