Full Details

This is the first workshop organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) to discuss Social Responsibility issues. Social Responsibility (SR) is the newest evolving element within the Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Social Responsibility (HSSE SR) sector of our industry.

During our journey to establish responsible HSSE and SR we have developed a sound, but continually evolving understanding of the critical elements of good health, safety, security and environmental programmes. We know that there is a connection between HSSE and SR, but there are not many organisations that have clearly defined what constitutes excellence in SR performance or programmes, especially in the area of project development. As one of the many “business risks” that our industry faces, it is likely that social pressures will force additional action and attention on SR. Organisations must understand and communicate SR risks to internal stakeholders in order to effectively address them during project development.

SPE believes there is a need to develop a deeper understanding of how SR is integrated into project development processes and to identify the benefits it brings to business. Developing effective stakeholder engagement, risk analysis, conflict sensitivity, or partnerships are among the SR issues currently being addressed by the industry.

This workshop will explore some of the key SR challenges facing us as well as establish a common understanding of SR. It will also provide the opportunity to learn from the experiences on the ground of major industry players
