A crucial collaboration is announced today between the Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Independent Data Services (IDS) and Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak. A memorandum of understanding has been signed by these four influential organisations, establishing the Sarawak Chapter of the Malaysian Software Testing Hub (MSTH).
The MSTH initiative was rolled out under the Economic Stimulus Package 2 in 2009. It aims to make Malaysia and South East Asia a centre of excellence for software testing. The stimulus programme is designed to create awareness and elevate the region’s software testing industry to world-class renown. The creation of the Sarawak chapter is being received as a huge boost to the project.
Reuben Wee, Chief Technology Officer for IDS, commented: “This is a hugely significant step in confirming Malaysia as a centre of digital excellence. IDS will be an integral part of this effort, with initiatives to further develop product innovation and the skill level of software professionals in Sarawak, and Kuching in particular."
Under the New Economic Model (NEM) the private sector is to assume a bigger role in Malaysia’s economic development. Leading software provider for the global oil and gas industry, IDS, will work alongside the MSTB, UNIMAS and Swinburne University to plan and implement the MSTH programmes. The Government of Malaysia, through EPU and Standards Malaysia, will facilitate these activities.
YB Datuk Haji Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, witnessed the signing. He described the formation of the MSTH Sarawak Chapter as a strategic move that would contribute to growth of other industries in the State and commented in his speech that: “Today’s signing marks the beginning for development of a new prosperous industry for Sarawak.”
The Sarawak Chapter will advance the MSTH’s core concept of Quality (‘Q’), which has already given rise the following programmes:
Q-Laboratory
A Test Bed for locally developed technologies, equipped with state-of-the-art testing tools and infrastructure, aimed at achieving world-class quality.
Q- Capability-Building
Producing Q-Workers through professional skills development training and professional certifications. Available to Government organisations, private sector, academia, fresh graduates, and the unemployed, often through training grants.
Q-Portal
The interface of MSTH to the cyber world. Providing support, sharing knowledge, matching customers with testing organisations.
Q-Industry Development
Business and market development, demand generation, promotions, marketing and public awareness of the MSTH.
