Kenyan Gravity Gradiometry survey completed for Tullow

October 25,  2011 - Cambridge, UK

ARKeX, the provider of geophysical imaging services, has completed a BlueQube airborne gravity gradiometry survey in Kenya for Tullow Oil plc. The survey ranks amongst one of the larger airborne Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometer (FTG) surveys flown to date. The total survey area covers blocks 12A, 10A and 10BA that surround Lake Turkana in North West Kenya.

Part of the East African Rift, the Turkana Rift Basin shares many geological attributes with the Lake Albert Rift Basin in Uganda; where Tullow have had a number of major discoveries. The Kenyan acreage has shown good evidence of a live oil system and the gravity gradiometry survey will help to provide an improved picture of the sub surface geology.

"We were delighted to be asked by Tullow to carry out a BlueQube survey", said Paul Versnel, VP Sales ARKeX. "It is a remote and demanding environment to operate in but I'm pleased to say we have completed the survey in excellent time and the results should prove extremely useful in shedding new light on this complex geological area."

The survey data will be used to identify basement structures, delineate fault trends and in the delineation of volcanics. The initial data is currently being fast tracked by ARKeX through processing with final processed results due in November.

About ARKeX
ARKeX is a geophysical service company for the oil & gas exploration industries.
It specialises in both Gravity Gradient Imaging (GGI) and conventional gravity and magnetics. GGI surveys measure minute variations in the earth's gravitational field to help image subsurface structures. GGI has a much higher bandwidth and delivers a higher resolution image than conventional gravity surveys. It can be used as a stand alone service or in conjunction with seismic data. ARKeX can also process and interpret conventional gravity and magnetic data as well as acquiring ultra high resolution GGI data from a ship or plane. Based in Cambridge, UK, ARKeX has offices in Sherington, UK, and Houston, USA, and has global operational capabilities.
