Back in 2011 the Consilience in-depth crude oil products, refining and shipping operations training course The three day course will be held in London hosted by Thomson Reuters at their facilities in Canary Wharf.
The first part of the course covering shipping operations is designed to:
Provide an in-depth understanding of shipping operations, nomination procedures, cargo documentation and demurrage. It will explain the structure of contracts and the content of industry standard general terms and conditions of trade, including the use of letters of credit to guarantee payment. It will demonstrate how shipping operators and traders can work together to achieve the best results.
The second part of the course is designed to:
Introduce refining and the supply of and demand for refined products. It will explain the relative value of different grades of crude oil in the context of the cyclincal products market. It demonstrates the use of the forward, futures and derivatives markets to hedge the physical oil price and paper oil and analyses the different types of basis risk encountered in the market.
The third part of the course is designed to:
Provide a unique, practical and comprehensive analysis of the world of the oil trader. It details trading techniques and contracts and examines the oil price formation process in more detail. The course material explains trader jargon, itemizes the trading instruments and contracts encountered in the market place for trading physical oil from onshore terminals, from offshore terminals and on dedicated tankers. It demonstrates the use of the forward, futures and derivatives markets to hedge the physical oil price and paper oil and analyses the different types of basis risk encountered in the market. It will draw the lessons learned in all three days together with a detailed explanation of hedging refining margins and how to lock them in by hedging.
