IDS has put WITSML into practice, making possible the auto-population of substantial components of numerous drilling and geological reports, across all eight of its DataNet2 web-based reporting and analysis applications. IDS will demonstrate this successful and significant achievement alongside Energistics on their stand at the Gas and Oil Expo in Calgary from June 7th to 9th.

The auto-population of IDS’s DrillNet (Daily Drilling Reports) and GeoNet (Daily Geology Reports) applications in particular, will have considerable impact. Virtually eliminating manual re-entry of data has massive implications for ` timescales but also reduces the risk of human error. Data directly from any trusted source, such as drilling parameters, can now be imported with 100% consistency and in any number.

Championed by Energistics, WITSML (Wellsite Information Transfer Standard Markup Language) is now widely used on many drilling operations and the standard covers a large section of the well construction domain. It is a requirement for contracts in Norway and is established in the North Sea and Saudi Arabia. The standard is growing in popularity in North America and the Far East.

Douwe Franssens, General Manager at IDS and an elected member of the WITSML Executive Team, comments: “Typing reports should not be the main focus of rig operations. The whole philosophy behind IDS and DataNet2 is to centralise data, making reporting, information management and data analysis quicker, easier and more cost effective. WITSML provides exciting capabilities now and even greater prospects for the future as more and more companies adopt and benefit from the standard.”

Proving the Energistics’ vision a reality, IDS has recently successfully linked to five other companies to share data and integrate their systems using WITSML. Arranged by Energistics, the exchange of well-site data took place earlier this year between IDS, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Petrolink, Kongsberg and Geologix. This significant demonstration shows how it is possible for different companies across the globe to share, process and analyse data; each applying their own area of expertise.

About IDS
IDS provides intuitive, web-delivered, daily reporting services to the upstream oil and gas industry, cost effectively.

IDS’s suite of powerful reporting tools, DataNet2, is based around the concept of centralising data - enabling oil and gas reports and information to be easily acquired, managed, shared, viewed and delivered across the web or via the client’s network in real time. Utilising the skills of industry-experienced engineers in conjunction with advanced IT thinking, IDS strives always to be at the very forefront of product innovation.

The level of integration allowed by the WITSML-compliant, web-based, DataNet2 system, is second to none. A pioneering cost model and 24/7 support allow clients to get the very most from IDS at all times, with a system that sustains the drilling project life cycle from initial concept to final decommissioning.
