Hermes Datacomms has appointed Sam Murray as Business Development Executive in Aberdeen. Sam will be responsible for developing the company's presence in the Aberdeen area, often described as the "Oil Capital of Europe". As well as working with Hermes major customers in Aberdeen including Wood Group PSN, he will be working with Bill Green, Hermes Global Account Director, to develop Hermes Intelligent Network Outsource (INO) solution and service.

Sam brings with him a wealth of experience both in the oil and gas industry and telecommunications. He has lived and worked in Aberdeen all his life and has worked in telecommunications for the oil and gas industry since hydrocarbons were first discovered in the North Sea in the early 1970's. Sam has a technical background and offshore engineering experience, and more recently, has worked in Sales and Marketing for several different communications companies including BT, Marconi and Nessco and Arqiva.

Global Account Director Bill Green commented, "Sam has joined us due to his wealth of experience in oil & gas communications, having worked for a number of companies and building up a vast network of contacts with customers and suppliers alike. Sam will utilise this experience and network to give a high quality service for our current and prospective client base in Aberdeen, providing options for a truly competitive global communications network. With the majority of oil exploration companies having a presence in Aberdeen, Sam will be close to our clients to react to immediate requirements and be proactive in making them aware of our portfolio of services, including our Intelligent Network Outsource offering, which has been acknowledged in the industry as providing commercial and operational benefits".

Bill also adds, "I would like to personally welcome Sam to the team and look forward to him bringing clients in Aberdeen closer to us".

Sam says," I am delighted to be joining Hermes Datacomms. What initially attracted me to the company was its go-ahead attitude and its unique selling point in offering communication solutions in the most difficult to reach parts of the world".

On a personal note, Sam has recently been selected as a torch bearer for the 2012 Olympic Games. Sam explains, " I have been involved in fund raising for UNICEF since 1985 when I joined Junior Chamber Aberdeen and was appointed as the representative on the Aberdeen UNICEF Committee. A few years ago, I was elected Chairman of the group, which has raised well in excess of £100,000 through a wide range of projects. I was shocked and humbled to be selected to be one of the 8000 torch bearers and am very much looking forward to the event".
