It is now too late for there to be a seamless transition from the Kyoto Protocol to a new agreement to take effect from 1st January 2013: the deadline to introduce a text that could be voted on at COP 17 in Durban this December has already passed.
That there will be an end to climate mitigation action when the Kyoto Protocol expires at the end of the 2012 is not an option: 196 countries, including the big 4 - USA, Russia, China and India - have signed the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). If those countries will not agree to an extended Kyoto model for achieving their binding UNFCCC commitments they must take alternative action. But we are now looking at "bottom up" rather than coordinated "top down" solutions to the climate change impasse.
Against this ever-changing background, the Consilience Energy Advisory Group is pleased to announce its next Foundation Emissions Trading Course. The course, hosted by ICAP in Broadgate, London, and supported by the Lord Mayor of London, will take place on Thursday 17th & Friday 18th November 2011. It is ideally suited to professionals in all sectors seeking high quality practical training in the legislative basis, the asset characteristics and the mechanics of the global emissions market.
In two days we can bring you up-to-date with the story so far, explain the issues surrounding the future of CDM, JI and emissions trading in a post-Kyoto environment and look at the status of national and regional emissions trading schemes worldwide.
