Opus records 50% increase in turnover

Leading produced water treatment and oil and gas separation specialist Opus has seen its turnover increase by more than 50% during the past 12 months.

Opus, which is the brand name for Opus Maxim and Opus Plus – saw its turnover rise from £3.106 million for 2006/2007 to £4.678 million in its latest financial year – an increase of 50.6%.

Opus Plus – based on Flotta, in Orkney – provides the offshore oil and gas market with a range of engineering and environmental services. Its turnover rose from £863,000 for 2006/07 to £1.435 million for 2007/08 – an increase of 66%.

Meanwhile, sister company, Opus Maxim – which is headquartered in Guildford – saw its turnover grow by 45%, from £2.243 million to £3.243 million. The company has extensive expertise in fluid process systems and its core activity is the enhancement of separation and produced water facilities.

In the past year, Opus – which employs 28 staff across the two companies – has undertaken projects for a range of clients and its global reach has also continued to grow, and it now regularly operates in the North Sea, Middle East and South-east Asia, as well as increasingly in the Gulf of Mexico.

With projected turnover for the next 12 months being £6 million, further recruitment is planned, with an additional eight new members of staff expected to join the Opus team in the coming six months.

Nigel Weir, Managing Director of Opus, believes there are a number of reasons for the impressive growth of the business over the past 12 months.

He said: “Opus is very client orientated and we have been building on our excellent track record of delivering high quality and professional products and services, through the nurturing of an increasing number of strong client relationships.

“We are also an innovative business and continue to invest in the progress and development of our people and in the research and development of our products which makes for an exciting company to work for.

“Increased participation at a number of major worldwide conferences over the past year, and a dedicated marketing initiative has also helped increase our profile within the industry and I am confident that Opus can build on this excellent set of financial results and achieve even greater success in the coming year.”

Opus Maxim and Opus Plus are two companies offering the oil and gas industry a unique blend of skills embracing all aspects of produced water treatment and oil and gas separation. Opus also operates laboratories providing aquatic toxicity, biodegradation and bioaccumulation studies of offshore chemicals.
