Storage vessels that depend on a seal pressure transmitter to relay accurate information regarding fuel oil levels can suffer if media within the tank solidifies or small particles gather on the sensing faces resulting in false level readings.

Typically the transmitter seal assembly has to be removed for cleaning and calibration exposing the diaphragm to potential damage and further linearity inaccuracies. A trip to the lab to rectify the damage can lead to costly downtime for storage and distribution depots.

Cheshire based Oliver Twinsafe Ltd has developed an ideal solution in their Level Gauge Double Block and Bleed Valve, designed to enable cleaning and recalibration of diaphragm seal pressure transmitters whilst eliminating the need to remove any components.

The compact unit houses five valves. Two main ball valves isolate the flow before a needle vent valve allows the cavity between the balls to be evacuated of media ensuring a true double barrier. A drain valve at the bottom of the unit facilitates the flushing of media trapped between the second isolate and the diaphragm seal whilst a purge valve at the top of unit means that cleaning solution can be introduced to the sensing faces under controlled pressure.

Internal drillings allow the solution to cleanse the diaphragm seal from four angled ports ensuring that matter and particles can be cleansed from the entire face.

“Oliver Twinsafe takes enormous pride in working with our customers to meet individual requirements,” said Deputy Chairman, Mark Oliver. “The Level Gauge Double Block and Bleed Valve demonstrates the continuing innovation within the company and ensures that our customers can be confident of reliable pressure transmitter readings and offers safe, cost effective maintenance.”
