THE next generation of engineers will later this month gain an insight into real working life in the energy industry.
An Aberdeen recruitment specialist, who has more than a decade of experience within the oil and gas sector, will address students at Adam Smith College in Glenrothes.
Sarah Hutcheon, branch manager of Morson International’s oil and gas base in Aberdeen, will present an interactive talk to be between 30 and 40 students HNC and HND petroleum engineering students on Wednesday, February 29.
The future engineers, who are hoping to secure work in the Aberdeen area, will be given tips on CV presentation, a breakdown of industry jargon as well as being briefed on how the recruitment process works.
Sarah is looking forward to offering her tips to future industry fellows and will look to ease any fears candidates may have ahead of entering the job market for the first time.
“It can be tough when you first enter the recruitment process, particularly at a time of indifferent economic growth, so hopefully I can help the students by answering any queries they may have,” said Sarah.
“Having a greater and more detailed understanding of what companies are looking for from candidates even just in terms of their CVs can be greatly beneficial.
“It might just help to set them apart from a rival who could also be going for the same job and having that vital edge could be the difference between getting the job and not.
“Working with engineers is not only important from a recruiters’ perspective but also from an industry point of view as they are in short supply.
“It is crucial to ensure the trained engineers aren’t suddenly turned off and subsequently have their skills transferred into an alternative sector before entering the industry.”
Bill Hutchison, lecturer at Adam Smith College, believes the talk will be greatly beneficial to the students.
“This is an invaluable chance for our students to get advice from someone who has more than a decade of experience in the industry,” he said.
“Morson International is an established oil and gas recruiter worldwide so we are delighted that Sarah has agreed to share her knowledge with us.”
