New group headquarters in Westhill
Global occupational health specialist Abermed has opened a fourth office in Aberdeen to accommodate its rapidly expanding team.
The company’s new group headquarters are located at Arnhall Business Park in Westhill, next to many major subsea company headquarters.
The premises have office space for 25 of Abermed’s staff who work across the whole group in the UK and internationally, including marketing, accounts and training.
Abermed’s medical clinic in Aberdeen remains at Forest Grove House on Foresterhill Road, where the majority of medicals are carried out on behalf of clients.
Abermed is the largest provider of Oil and Gas UK medicals worldwide.
There are two additional offices with medical facilities at Dyce and within Atlas Interactive at Bridge of Don’s Science and Energy Park, which is also home to Atlas’ training centre.
James Miller, Managing Director of Abermed, said it was important for the company to have a group headquarters in Westhill.
“Abermed has enjoyed rapid growth over the past five years, with sites all over Scotland, England, Kazakhstan and soon in the Middle East, so we have taken on more and more staff to fill a variety of roles, including developing our international training capabilities.
“Our medical unit at Forest Grove House is increasingly busy with medical assessments so it made sense for us to move the departments which have a group function to another office.
“We are a key player in the energy sector so it was important for us to have a base in Westhill, alongside many of our existing clients such as Technip.
“This latest expansion allows us to continue to offer a highly efficient service to our clients and reinforces our expertise in - and close links with - the international oil and gas industry.”
Established in 1983 to provide medical services to the North Sea oil and gas industry, as Aberdeen Industrial Doctors Limited, Abermed has evolved to become one of the leading UK-based providers of occupational health care.
As well as health promotion and surveillance services, Abermed has a full offshore medics service and is also fully equipped to provide both topside and diving medical emergency services, offering a 24/7 emergency cover service with specialist doctors experienced in practising in harsh offshore conditions.
It can also supply repatriation services, occupational hygienist service, supply company doctors and nurses to organisations, carry out audits of medical services available on installations and prepare protocol manuals.
As well as its four offices in Aberdeen, Abermed has bases in Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Teesside, Great Yarmouth and Norwich, employing more than 230 staff.
It also has a majority stake in Kazanada, a medical company in Kazakhstan which operates more than 30 clinics, providing a platform for further expansion into the Caspian region.
