Xodus Group Brings New Risk Management Software to the Market

19 May 2009

Aberdeen-headquartered oil and gas consultancy Xodus Group is introducing a new integrated risk management tool to the energy market. The company is using the UK’s largest renewable energy show - All Energy 09 - to launch XRISK, a first of its kind, web-based risk management application.

Xodus Group provides integrated engineering, safety and environmental consultancy to industry and government worldwide. XRISK is a web-based software technology that captures all aspects of a project or company’s risk management strategy and stores the information in a secure, central shareable risk register.

Colin McWhirr, director of the Group’s Technical Safety and Risk (TSR) division explained:
“Ultimately we have designed XRISK to give companies a standard process for performing risk reviews. The software allows users to have a clear visibility of their agreed risk reduction strategies making it easier to analyse the cost benefits and compare unmanaged risks and managed risks on a plot of likelihood versus severity.”

Designed in-house by Xodus software engineers, XRISK allows all development/project risks to be centrally managed - through a web based portal they are clearly visible to all company and project stakeholders. In addition, the software allows for the tracking of actions via traffic light colour coding and email alerts. This means users can produce various reports, including a detailed and time accurate action register.

Colin continued:
“XRISK supports a variety of risk assessment applications and we expect that conceptual HAZID and project execution risk reviews will be of particular interest to those attending All Energy 09.”

Aimed primarily at Project & HSEQ engineers and managers, who need to understand how risk needs to be managed in order to deliver success, Xodus developed the software in response to the increased need to provide clear visibility on project risks and their effective management.

“When we were developing the software our objective was to find a way of transforming the existing Microsoft Access database version(s) of XRISK into a web-based version which is both generic and easily customised, covering all required types of risk review and assessment,” said Colin.

“As an integrated consultancy, we can draw upon the expertise of various skill sets including environmental and subsea engineering all of which allow us to offer a truly comprehensive service to manage all types of risk assessments. Having this custom designed technology at our disposal also means our clients can easily undertake all types of risk reviews and we are confident this puts us in an even stronger position in terms of our risk assessment and environmental capabilities.”

Taking an integrated approach to project delivery that draws on the breadth of engineering and management skills from across the company’s five energy divisions, Xodus has experience of working on large, high profile contracts in both the UK and overseas. New business in the environmental sector includes contracts with Shell, BP, Airtricity and International Power Marine Developments as well as a 200% increase in sales of the company’s proprietary software tools for improving environmental performance and e-learning.

By integrating specialist engineering skills, corporate management consultancy, stakeholder engagement and environmental science, Xodus Group specializes in the independent delivery of field planning, assurance and optimisation consultancy services that support the upstream oil and gas and marine renewables sector.

With over 220 staff in the UK and Australia, Xodus Group comprises five divisions Environmental (Xodus AURORA), Technical, Safety & Risk (TSR), Subsea, Integration Technology, and Process & Facilities.
