Second round of awards, United Kingdom 26th Licensing Round

Friday, February 3, 2012
  • On 30 December 2012, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced a second round of awards as part of the 26th Licensing Round whereby 46 more licences have been awarded, covering 110 blocks.

These offers were previously held back pending the need for further assessment on Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs). The locations of the additional licences awards include the West of Shetlands, Central North Sea, Southern North Sea, the English Channel, the North Channel and the Morecambe Bay.

A number of companies with UK onshore assets have acquired interests in offshore blocks for the first time, namely Infrastrata, Ecorp, Oil & Gas Investments, Montrose, Magellan, NWE Mirrabooka, Wessex and P.R. Singleton. The majority of these companies have acquired interests in the Wessex Basin, just off the southern coast of England.
