Samsung Heavy Industries Co., the world's second-largest shipyard, said Thursday that it has clinched a 633-billion won (US$551 million) deal to build a vessel for gas exploitation and its storage.
The deal with an European client calls on Samsung Heavy to build the floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) by September 2011, the company said in a statement.
The vessel will be deployed to a massive gas field in Nigeria from 2012, it added.
Samsung Heavy has won $13.5 billion worth of deals so far this year, accounting for 90 per cent of its yearly target of $15 billion in the business.
