RWE‘s joint venture LNG company, Excelerate Energy LLC, has received the prestigious Anzai Achievement Award. The company was presented the award at the GASTECH 2009 conference in AbuDhabi. The Anzai Achievement Award honors significant, continued contributions to the development of the international natural gas industry.
“The award is a sign that our commercial and technical innovations in the field of liquefied natural gas are valued by our peers” said Stefan Judisch, CEO of RWE Supply & Trading, also responsible for the RWE Group’s gas midstream busi-ness. “It documents the successful design, development, implementation, and operation of Excelerate’s Energy Bridge technology, which makes us very proud.”
Energy Bridge is the proprietary technology for offshore and onshore LNG regasification and delivery on board of specially designed ships, developed by Excelerate Energy. The system involves the use of purpose built LNG carriers for the transportation and vaporization of LNG. RWE has invested into a 50% stake in the company in June 2008, as the technology is ideally tailored for markets with seasonal LNG requirements and/or markets, which need LNG for reasons of security of supply.
Based on this unique technology, special receiving facilities have been successfully built in Argentina, the US Northeast and Gulf coast and in the United Kingdom. The receiving facility in Kuwait will come in operation this summer. Further projects are being developed, also a GasPort facility in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
About the Anzai Award:
Dr Hiroshi Anzai, as chairman of, Tokyo Gas in the late 1960s/early 1970s, had commit-ted his company to the first major LNG import project to the Pacific region. His success is considered a milestone in the development of international LNG trade. Consequently, he was honoured with an award in his name at the first Asian GASTECH conference in Kuala Lumpur in 1988. The Award has only been granted to most prominent market par-ticipants since, namely Woodside, Shell, Pertamina, and Qatargas.
