RWE Dea Opens Office in Azerbaijan

Saturday, July 04, 2009

“Azerbaijan will play an important role in future in securing Europe’s energy supply”, explained Dr. Manfred Dworatzek, Senior Vice President Exploration / New Ventures at RWE Dea AG, at the official inauguration of the RWE Dea branch office in Baku. Accordingly, RWE Dea plans to intensify its activities in the country. The company will be represented locally by David Skeels.

Azerbaijan has extensive natural resources. In the course of potential exploration and field development projects, RWE Dea could draw on its diverse experience in the field of shallow-water developments. “We have already had initial talks with the national oil company in this regard,” Dworatzek added. An outstanding example of RWE Dea’s know-how is the Mittelplate drilling and production island in Schleswig-Holstein’s Wattenmeer tidelands national park; which the company has operated incident-free for almost 22 years now.

Moreover, being an energy-exporting country, Azerbaijan will play an in important role in the realisation of the planned Nabucco pipeline. The pipeline is intended to connect the natural gas reservoirs of the Caspian region with Europe. RWE is one of the six shareholders of the Nabucco pipeline consortium.
