RWE Dea has announced that the exploration wells, Reggane-5 and Sali-1 located in the Algerian Reggane North area have tested successfully for gas from the Lower Devonian formation.
The Reggane North permit comprises of blocks 351c-352c covering an area of approximately 12,012 square kilometres. RWE Dea holds a 22.5% equity interest in the Repsol YPF operated permit.
The two wells were drilled following the acquisition of 646 km of 2D seismic and 942 square kilometres of 3D seismic. Reggane-5 encountered gas at two levels of the Lower Devonian formation with a maximum flow rate of 24 mmscf/d.
Sali-1 discovered gas in the Lower Devonian formation with a maximum flow rate of 3,8 mmscf/d.
A third well, Kahlouche-2 on the western part of the block is currently in progress along with an additional seismic programme of 550 km of 2D.
An ambitious exploration and delineation work programme to include at least eight further wells is planned for 2006 and 2007.
RWE Dea’s partners in the Reggane North Permit are Repsol YPF (33,75% and Operator), Edison Gas (18,75%) and the national Algerian company Sonatrach (25%, in carry). The permit was awarded in the third Algerian bidding round held in 2002.
Reggane-5 encountered gas at two levels of the Lower Devonian formation with a maximum flow rate of 636.000 cubic metres/day, choke 32”/64”, WHP 4238 psi.
Sali-1 discovered gas in the Lower Devonian formation with a maximum flow rate of 100.000 cubic metres/day, choke 64“/64“, WHP 122 psi.
