Buenos Aires-based Pan American Energy has reported a significant oil find in southern Argentina.

The discovery, one of the biggest in recent years, is located in Chubu's central Escalante region and could contain up to 100 mln barrels of oil equivalent according to a company spokesman.

Pan American, which is controlled by BP, is Argentina's second-biggest oil producer.

Last year, Pan American and Chubut renegotiated the company's concession for the site where the new reserve was found, giving the firm another 10-year contract on condition that it invest in exploration.
