Oil & Gas UK breakfast Sheds Light on UK Energy Policy Across the Political Spectrum

25 November 2009

With the general election just around the corner, key figures from across the political spectrum have agreed to speak on UK energy policy at Oil & Gas UK's final London breakfast briefing of 2009. The event, sponsored by Herbert Smith and the Royal Bank of Scotland, will be held at 8am on 1 December 2009 at Herbert Smith's office.

Confirmed speakers are Charles Hendry MP, the Conservative Shadow Energy Minister, Mike Weir MP, the SNP Spokesperson for Trade, Industry and Energy; Environment, and Simon Hughes MP, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. Participants from the Labour party have also been invited.

Each speaker will set out his party's political vision for the UK's future energy policy, views on the importance of oil and gas in the energy mix and the sustainable development of the UK oil and gas industry's supply chain. This will be followed by an interactive panel session where Malcolm Webb, Oil & Gas UK's chief executive, will open up the floor to questions.

Oil & Gas UK's chief executive, Malcolm Webb said:
"The policies needed to ensure our lights stay on, our homes are heated and our transport needs are met have never been under a brighter spotlight. While we recognise and support the need to move to a lower carbon economy, oil and gas will provide the foundations of that transition and will be relied upon for decades to come. Therefore, Oil & Gas UK is delighted that spokespeople from key political parties have agreed to present their views on the components of an effective energy policy and we look forward to a thought-provoking and challenging debate."

Oil & Gas UK's breakfast briefings present an excellent opportunity to network with industry colleagues and to be informed of the latest developments in the UK oil and gas sector. Please visit Oil & Gas UK to book a place.
