Employers and training providers in the oil and gas industry have less than two weeks left to secure their entry into the OPITO Safety and Competency Awards.
Nominations will close on August 26th for the awards which seek to recognise employers who have helped improve safety and competency through the use of OPITO standards and training providers who have improved their training deliver to ensure safe and competent workers.
The judging panel has been announced. It will comprise of David Doig, OPITO Group chief executive; Iain Laing, managing director of OPITO International; Gordon Ballard, chairman of Schlumberger Oilfield UK Plc; and Billy Mitchell, global competence assurance manager at Transocean.
The awards will be presented at OPITO's second annual international safety and competency conference - OSCC 2011 - in Abu Dhabi on the 22nd of November.
Any company of any size can enter the Employers Award if they can demonstrate the rationale for adopting OPITO standards, describe the range of standards used, the number of employees trained or assessed to OPITO standards and provide evidence of where the standards have resulted in improve safety and competence.
Training providers from around the world can enter the OPITO Approved Training Providers Award. This award will go to the provider with the best staff development programme that can demonstrate innovation in learning and development.
OSCC is an annual event which brings operators, contractors and the supply chain together with training organisations from around the world to provide a forum for improving standards of safety and competency that protect the workforce and the industry's reputation.
OSCC 2011 takes place in the Rotana Hotel, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The one day conference will focus on how the industry can develop a more competent workforce that significantly improves safety rather than one which simply complies with legislation and best practice.
The keynote speaker for the event, which aims to attract upwards of 300 delegates from around the world, is Lord Cullen, author of the Cullen Report, an outcome of the Piper Alpha tragedy.
Entries can be made on-line at www.opito-oscc.com. Finalists will be announced by 30th of September 2011 and winners announced at OSCC 2011.
