Niko Makes Major Gas Discovery in Bangladesh

Monday, November 29, 2004

Niko Resources Ltd. has announced the test results for its gas discovery at Bangora, Bangladesh. The Bangora-1 well was drilled to a depth of 3,636m and encountered numerous gas bearing reservoirs from 2,580m to 3,285m. Having completed the well, the three lowermost zones were production tested, recording an aggregate flow rate in excess of 120 mmscfd at flowing pressures in excess of 2000 psi from individual sands with up to 87m gross thickness.
The lowermost E Sand flowed gas at 24.5 mmscfd. The D Sand was tested in two separate tests: the Lower D Sand tested at 41 mmscfd and the Upper D Sand tested at 56 mmscfd. Gas quality is high, with 99.13% combustible gases. In addition, at least three potential gas bearing sands identified from logs will be tested in a subsequent well.
Following on from the earlier discovery at Lalmai, Niko has now had gas discoveries at each end of a 40 km long anticlinal structure located within Block 9. Niko intends to carry out a comprehensive appraisal programme over the structure, including further seismic and drilling.
Niko holds its interest through its wholly owned subsidiary Niko Exploration (Block 9) Limited (60%), with co-venturers Tullow Bangladesh Limited (30%), and Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Limited (10%).
