Marathon Oil Corporation announces that Eileen M. Campbell has been elected vice president of Public Policy, and Robert L. Sovine has been elected vice president of Human Resources. Both appointments are effective June 1, 2010.
In her new position, Campbell, who currently serves as Marathon's vice president of Human Resources, will be responsible for the Company's Federal, State and International Government Affairs, Corporate Social Responsibility and Administrative Services organizations. These organizations are among those currently under the direction of Jerry Howard, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs, who will retire on June 1.
As vice president of Human Resources, Sovine, who currently serves as manager of Human Resources for Marathon's Upstream organization, will be responsible for managing the Company's human resource policies, programs and practices for Marathon's worldwide workforce of nearly 29,000 employees.

Campbell was appointed to her current position in 2000. Her career spans more than 20 years, focusing on management, human resources and government affairs. She joined Marathon in 1991 as manager of Government Affairs, serving as the Company's lobbyist in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico. In July 1998, she was appointed director of State Governmental Affairs for USX Corporation, the former parent company for Marathon. Prior to joining Marathon, Campbell was employed by United Gas Pipe Line Company as a lobbyist. Prior to that, she worked for eight years in a number of positions of increasing responsibility with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).
A native of New Jersey, Campbell holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. She serves as the president of the Board of The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Houston affiliate and also serves as vice chairman of the Board of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc. (NACME). She is also a board member of Girls Incorporated of Greater Houston.
Sovine was appointed to his current position in 2003 and, in addition to his responsibilities for all human resources activities for Marathon's Upstream organization, he also has been responsible for the Company's international human resource policies and practices. He joined Marathon in 1980 as a Human Resources representative in Findlay, Ohio, and subsequently held a number of Human Resource positions of increasing responsibility in the Findlay office and at the Company's refineries in Robinson, Ill.; Texas City, Texas; and Catlettsburg, Ky. He transferred to Houston in 2001 as manager of Human Resources - Compensation and Organizational Development, and held that position until being appointed to his current role in 2003.
Sovine earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from West Virginia University, and a master's degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from that same institution. He currently serves as an adjunct professor of Human Resources in the MBA program at Houston Baptist University, and as a volunteer mediator for the Harris County (Texas) Dispute Resolution Center. He is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management.
