Ikon Science Launches Roknowledge. Moray Firth, a New Rock Physics Study and Database

Monday, December 07, 2009

The Ikon Science group in collaboration with IHS have produced "Roknowledge™ - Moray Firth", a new rock physics study and database. Roknowledge™ - Moray Firth makes it possible, for the first time, to validate and update rock physics models using trends specific to the North Sea Basin, thereby allowing interpreters to concentrate on seismic modelling rather than data inconsistencies, saving both time and cost.

Drawing on data from 50 wells and 108 reservoirs, Roknowledge™ - Moray Firth provides a visual look-up reference of rock physics relationships and the seismic behaviour of rocks. Using standard rock physics terminology and workflows for the North Sea E&P industry, Roknowledge™ includes regional shear velocity trends specifically derived from the Moray Firth region and detailed Moray Firth depth trend analysis for important elastic properties.

Roknowledge™ key deliverables:
• Log QC and data conditioning.
• Rock physics analysis and interpretation based on single well analysis of 50 wells, including 108 reservoirs from 38 recognised hydrocarbon fields, with properties for in-situ and fluid substituted cases.
• AVO analysis to determine the fluid response.
• Well correlations based on principal stratigraphic subdivisions from the Triassic to Eocene, across all 3 sub-basins.
• Vp-Vs equations for Sandstone, Shale’s and Chalk for principal stratigraphic subdivisions across all 3 sub-basins.
• Depth trend analysis of important elastic properties for calibrating AVO responses and modelling in areas where fewer data are available.
• Fluid and mineral data for every reservoir interval analysed.

Roknowledge™ - Moray Firth is available in hard copy A3. An optional deliverable of LAS data and a digital .rok file is available, with complete interpretation and project notes for interactive use with RokDoc* software.
