Great Artesian Group To Test Murrippi Well

Tuesday, March 04, 2008

Great Artesian Oil and Gas Limited has advised that the Murrippi-1 exploration well located in the PEL 91 licence in the South Australian Cooper Basin has reached a td of 2149m and is preparing for a DST. Over the weekend, the Murrippi-1 encountered hydrocarbon shows in sands at the top of the Patchawarra Formation. A drillstem test (DST) will be conducted to test the interval for moveable hydrocarbons.

The DST is expected to commence today with further information to be released as it becomes available. The Murrippi-1 is the second of two wells that are being drilled by the joint venture in PEL91 to test prospects in the ‘oil fairway’ between the Christies, Sellicks, Callawonga and Parsons oil discoveries in PEL92 to the southwest and the Growler and Wirraway oil discoveries in PEL104 to the northeast.

The Murrippi-1 has dual Jurassic and Permian targets. The primary targets of Murrippi-1 are the basal Birkhead Formation/Hutton Sandstone and Patchawarra Formation, with secondary targets in the Poolowanna and mid-Birkhead Formations. Pre-drill P50 recoverable reserves of 0.6 million barrels of oil for the Hutton formation and 0.17 million barrels for the Patchawarra Formation are estimated. Possible “fill to spill” potential of the structures is in the region of 2 to 3 million barrels of recoverable oil.

The Murrippi-1 is an oil exploration well and will test a four way dip closed structure on the western flank of the Patchawarra Trough in PEL 91. Murrippi-1 is about 30 km north northeast of the Sellicks Field. Great Artesian is fully funding its 60% interest in Murrippi-1, estimated at $1.14 million net to GOG with pperator, Beach Petroleum holding the remaining 40%.
