The contractor group for Block 32 in ultra deep water offshore Angola, where Galp Energia holds a position, announced a new oil discovery with the exploration well designated Alho – 1.
Drilled in a water depth of 1,607 metres, the Alho-1 well encountered Upper Oligocene oil bearing reservoirs. The well was tested from a selected Oligocene reservoir interval and produced at a rate of 5,400 barrels per day of 26° API oil. This discovery is located in the north-eastern part of Block 32, approximately 9 kilometres north west of the Cominhos-1 discovery made in May 2007.
Situated in ultra deep water offshore Angola, the major potential of Block 32 was confirmed by the previous twelve discoveries achieved between 2003 and 2007. Complementary technical studies are underway to monetise these discoveries.
The Contractor Group for Block 32 is formed by Sonangol (20%), Total (operator, 30%), Marathon Oil (30%), Exxon (15%) and Galp Energia (5%).
Regarding offshore exploration Galp Energia is also present in Block 33, Block 14 and Block 14K/A-IMI in Angola.
