Operator Gazociagów Przesylowych GAZ-SYSTEM SA (OGP GAZ-SYSTEM SA) and Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (PGNiG SA) announce that during the last 24 hours, natural gas deliveries from East via Drozdowicze cross-border point situated on the Polish-Ukrainian border have decreased by further 7 million m3 per day. PGNiG SA has been notified that the performance of the contract by RusUkrEnergo AG is not possible until further notice.
As at 6 January 2009, 10:00 hours, natural gas deliveries via Drozdowicze cross-border point were at 15% of the planned levels.
Currently, the amount of natural gas delivered via Vysokoye cross-border point on the Polish-Byelorussian border has increased. In order to balance the natural gas deliveries to Polish customers and due to low temperatures, an increased amount of natural gas is being supplied from storage facilities.
Due to decreased deliveries via Drozdowicze cross-border point on the Polish-Ukrainian border as well as low temperatures, PGNiG intends to ask its largest industrial customers to reduce the usage of natural gas.
Additionally, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. has notified the Minister of Economy on the need to introduce limits in the usage of natural gas by industrial customers pursuant to the Limitation Plan approved by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office. The limitations will be possible to be introduced following the adoption of a relevant ordinance by the Council of Ministers and could be implemented in the case of further decrease of natural gas deliveries from East.
The aims of the possible regulatory limitations in natural gas usage is to ensure the safe functioning of the natural gas transport and distribution systems and to protect municipal and individual customers (such as households, schools or hospitals).
