Incremental Petroleum and Otto Energy announce the spudding of the first well in 2008 of the Edirne gas project in Western Turkey. The 2008 drilling campaign involves the drilling of five wells targeting a combined 10-20 BCF. The first well, Ikihoyuk 1, will be drilled to a total depth of 520m, and is expected to take about 10 days to complete.
The well is being drilled using Incremental’s drilling rig which has been transported a distance of 1,700 km from the Selmo oilfield to be used for the 2008 Edirne campaign.
The Ikihoyuk structure is one of 17 structures mapped on the 2007 3D seismic and is a downthrown fault trap, with a mapped structural closure of about 1.7 sq. km. The closure is coincident with strong amplitudes on the seismic data, suggesting a high probability of encountering gas. The primary target reservoir is prognosed between about 225m and 335m. The lack of nearby well control means that the net reservoir thickness will only be determined by drilling.
The well is also targeting a second, deeper potential reservoir identified through the seismic.
The five well programme is designed to prove up significant sales volume of gas to enable a combination of these shallow structures to be placed on production mid 2009. The partners in the Edirne Gas project are Incremental Petroleum 45%, Otto Energy 35% and two Turkish partners at 10% each.
