Aberdeen-based presenting and magic firm, Fifth Dimension, looks set to revolutionise offshore health and safety training after securing a contract with major oil and gas company, Apache, to deliver innovative seminars for personnel onboard five platforms in the Forties field.
The company has been working with Apache to present 'magically enhanced' HSE (Health Safety & Environmental) sessions to staff onboard the Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo installations.
The firm, which already has a wealth of impressive experience in presenting HSE seminars across the UK for staff operating in the onshore oil and gas sector, will deliver the presentations, devised to highlight hazard awareness considerations, by using magical effects and illustrations to maximise the effectiveness of the sessions.
In order to fulfil the contract - which will entail Fifth Dimension presenting the sessions to more than 800 personnel in total - the company's team of presenters are undertaking 10, two day trips to the platforms, in order to ensure all staff receive the training.
Partner of Fifth Dimension, Ivor Smith, says he's delighted to have secured the contract with Apache, which he feels heralds an exciting new chapter for the company.
He said: 'Working with Apache is a major development for Fifth Dimension, as we look to further capitalise on the need for unique - but highly effective - training methods.
'Whilst we have already built an impressive reputation for delivering innovative HSE seminars onshore for the oil and gas industry, we feel that with the capability to now travel offshore, an array of additional opportunities within the sector has opened up.
'Whilst we look to consolidate the onshore training arm of the business, we hope this contract is the first of many offshore projects we secure in the sector in the period ahead.
'Through injecting creativity into what can, at times, be perceived as a dry topic we look forward to delivering an extremely serious and important message in a fun way, which will see key messages not only presented but - essentially - retained.'
OIM (Offshore Installation Manager) of Forties Alpha, Billy Muir - who has attended one of the seminars onboard the platform - added: 'For me, the company certainly brought the fifth dimension into the room. The sessions were extremely effective, with high levels of engagement and participation between the company's team and attendees. It was also good how they made the connection between their magic tricks and interventions and safety conversations on the worksite.'
Fifth Dimension is made up of highly experienced business presenters, who have backgrounds in a range of disciplines, including finance, marketing, tax, health & safety and management. Also magicians and entertainers, in 1998, the three founders established the company to combine these skills with their business experience to provide four main areas of services - entertainment, magically enhanced training, exhibitions and education workshops.
