Eni Announces New Oil Discovery Offshore Republic of Congo

Wednesday, August 08, 2007

Eni, through its subsidiary Eni Congo, has successfully completed drilling activities at the exploration well Cassiopée Est Marine -1, located in the Mèr Très Profonde Sud offshore permit (MTPS), 170 km off the coast of the Republic of Congo. The well was drilled at a water depth of some 2,000 metres.

Eni has a 30% interest in the MTPS permit. The other partners are Total E&P Congo (Operator, 40%) and Esso Congo (30%).

The new discovery follows discoveries at Andromède, Pégase Nord and Aurige Nord within the same MTPS permit.

Eni is strongly committed to exploration and development activities in the Republic of Congo, where it has been present since 1968. Overall investments at 2006 amounted to some USD 4 billion, while equity production has grown 77,000 barrels per day.

Eni’s commitment to Congo is also testified by the company’s recent acquisition and operatorship of the M’Boundi field and by its entry to and operatorship of the Marine XII exploration block. The potential production of gas by Marine VII will be developed through an integrated project which is based on a new 300-450 MW power plant to be built near the Djeno terminal.
