Contractor Dies Following Accident at Suncor Oil Sands Facility

Suncor Energy Inc. regretfully reports that a Finning Canada employee died today from injuries sustained during an accident that occurred at the company’s oil sands mining operation. A second person involved in the accident, a Suncor employee, was treated at hospital for injuries and has been released.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Suncor has notified all authorities and is working with them to complete a full investigation into the cause of the incident.

“This is a tragic incident and I know that both Finning and Suncor employees and contractors join me in extending our deepest sympathies to the worker’s family. We’re thinking of them at this difficult time,” said Kirk Bailey, Suncor’s executive vice president.
