China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) launched a bidding process for this year's 'first batch' of offshore acreage for foreign operators to join CNOOC in exploration, on 24 May 2011. A total of 19 blocks located in the South China Sea, offshore southern China, are to be offered in this process, covering a total area of 52,006 square kilometres.
