Nick Gibson is VP Sales and Marketing at Sekal.
Sekal supply solutions that employ real time data from a rig to calculate and give a detailed and refined picture of the state of an oil/gas well. The solutions may be used together with existing drilling control systems and to detect drilling problems in advance of undesirable occurrences. The result is a safer and more efficient drilling process. The solutions are described below.
DrillScene from Sekal
DrillScene software from Sekal systematically analyses real-time data in order to monitor downhole conditions. The software automatically calibrates the mechanical, hydraulic and temperature models in real-time using pure physics principles to monitor downhole conditions and notify the drill team of any deviations from the modelled behaviour.
DrillScene can calculate predicted hook load and surface torque in any drilling condition. Calibration deviation factors are used to detect poor downhole conditions, which when they occur, the DrillScene system automatically generates messages for nominated key personnel who can evaluate the potential problems and take necessary actions, providing you with a 24 by 7 feedback on drilling operations.
DrillTronics from Sekal
DrillTronics from Sekal works in both passive and active modes.
In active or control mode, DrillTronics is directly connected into the rigs drilling control system (DCS) which then actively controls the draw-work, top-drive and mud pumps to account for the dynamic behaviour of the well during drilling operations, thereby optimising drilling operations and helping reduce the incidence of drilling non productive time (NPT).
DrillTronics provides safeguards for drill string movement, rig heave, semi-automatic staged pump startup, automatic friction tests and reciprocation, as well as safety triggers for over-pull, maximum torque, set-down weight and pack-off situations with automatic pump handling.
In passive or advisory mode, DrillTronics does not directly control the DCS, but provides feedback and guidance to the driller which he can use as part of the ongoing well plan.
