Description
The Department of Geology comprises 21 academic staff, 11 support staff and some 20 research staff. We have 200 undergraduates and our graduate school consists of over 40 MSc students and 40 PhD students.
Annually we accept between 50-60 undergraduate students to three (BSc) and four (MSci) year degree programmes. The education of our undergraduate students is underpinned by an extensive fieldwork training programme in the UK, Spain, France, the USA and Canada. Teaching at all levels is inextricably linked to research activities within the department.
RHUL Geology offers several masters programmes in basin evolution, tectonics and environmental geology. The Basins MSc maintains an annual intake of ca 25 post-graduates and is supported by six NERC studentships annually and boasts significant industrial funding and support. The EAA MSc has an intake of ca 15 students and is supported by RHUL bursaries.
At PhD level the EU has selected RHUL Geology as a Marie Curie training site for doctoral students in Tectonics and Basins. Our post-graduate teaching and research activities help maintain vital links with industrial and commercial partners thus providing research support, employment for our graduates and work experience for our undergraduates.
We are committed to the principle of education for all and we seek to make our courses equally accessible to those who may have special education needs because of physical or mental impairment.
