Technology Innovators Urged to Log on and Find Out About Produced Fluids Funding Opportunity

The outcomes of a technology challenge workshop held by the oil and gas Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) are set to be released to an international audience with the launch of a webcast.

Interested technology developers can log on to find out about the opportunity to receive up to 100% funding for new solutions which address the challenges of dealing with fluids from oil production whilst protecting the environment.

An international 'call for proposals' will be launched shortly offering developers the chance to make an application. The webcast which is now live on the Technology Challenges section of www.oil-itf.com, gives people the chance to view footage from the workshop which took place between ITF operator and service company members and technology developers in Aberdeen in August.

David Liddle, Operations Director at ITF said:
'We had an excellent turn-out and a very informed debate which allowed us to drill down into the issues that our members want to see addressed by new technology proposals. I'd urge interested technology development companies to log on and view the webcast to find out more about those crucial issues and how to apply. As well as offering up to 100% funding, we also enable innovator's to retain their Intellectual Property, which sets us apart from other funding programmes.'

ITF, the global funding programme of choice, is not-for-profit and owned by 25 major operator and service companies. Over the last ten years ITF has been responsible for delivering over 150 joint industry projects (JIPs) with direct member funding in excess of £50 million.

Produced fluids management is an ongoing international challenge that has a substantial impact on production outputs. This collaboration between operators and technology developers will kick-start the process of finding ground breaking solutions to this costly issue.

Produced water will usually consist of a mixture of formation and injected water containing elements such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide as well as bacteria. This can lead to stress cracking, corrosion and scale related issues. Operators are specifically interested in the capture, treatment and disposal of produced water that can meet strict international environmental criteria.

Some of the themes which emerged as priorities at the workshop included 'polishing water' to make it as clean as possible to meet industry standards, sand management, process control, design, and separation issues.
