PTTEP Discovers Natural Gas in Block M9, Myanmar
Wednesday, January 03, 2007
PTT Exploration and Production Plc (PTTEP) has found a promising amount of petroleum at M9 Field in the Union of Myanmar.
The exploration well Zawtika–1A was spudded on December 4th, 2006. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,567 meters and encountered natural gas baring formation. Three flow rates testing from 3 ½” liner were conducted and the result indicated a natural gas maximum flow rate of approximately 71.4 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). The successful drilling results confirmed the future potential core development area in block M9.
Apart from the petroleum find, PTTEP takes pride in the testing method called Tubing Stem Test (TST) which the company developed. Applying the technology used in the Gulf of Thailand, the method helps reduce time consumed and drilling cost.
Mr. Maroot Mrigadat, President of PTTEP, said “The find is not only good for Thailand, but for Myanmar as well. We will drill more exploration and delineation wells in this block this year to estimate the petroleum reserves and we look forward to preparing a development plan for future production.”
PTTEP International Limited (PTTEPI), a 100% owned subsidiary of PTTEP, is an operator of exploration block, M9, in Myanmar. The block is located in the Gulf of Mataban, about 250-300 kilometers south of Yangon.
