Wood Group Wagners Pty Ltd, a new joint venture company set up by international energy services company Wood Group and Toowoomba-based Wagners was launched today by The Honourable Anna Bligh MP, Premier of Queensland in Parliament House, Brisbane.
The new company has been established in Brisbane to provide Queensland's gas producers with a flexible, fit-for-purpose solution for developing Coal Seam Methane (CSM) by combining Wood Group's global CSM experience with the local supply chain capability of Wagners. Wood Group has developed its CSM expertise over several years working for major clients in Wyoming's Powder River and Green River Basins.
Les Thomas, Wood Group Board director responsible for Asia Pacific said:'We have broadened our engineering and project management capability in Australia with this joint venture, recent strategic investments and acquisitions. Wood Group Wagners provides a great resource for the CSM industry in Australia as the combined strength of our partner companies gives us the capability to deliver CSM projects from field development through commissioning to operations.'
The joint venture marks Wagners' entry into the CSM sector. A family-owned company employing over 1,000 employees, Wagners specialises in supplying material, transportation, warehousing and logistics, specialising in remote and challenging site locations.
John Wagner, Managing Director of Wagners said:
'We are delighted to form this joint venture with Wood Group to provide the necessary expertise locally for the full development of CSM related projects.'
Australia holds the fifth largest coal reserves in the world and the CSM market has recently seen significant growth to satisfy Asian economies' growing long-term energy needs.
