Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, is pleased to announce the appointment of a team of investment bankers, based in Houston, Texas, focused on providing financing, advisory and risk management products & services to clients in the energy sector. The senior members of the team include Managing Directors Joseph C. Gatto, Jr. and Russell A. Johnson.

In recent months, Barclays Capital has expanded its investment banking coverage of major industry sectors through the addition of several senior bankers specializing in major product categories across debt, equity and M&A. In addition to energy, the firm has recently expanded its coverage of the healthcare, paper & packaging and retail sectors.

“This team represents the latest in an impressive series of additions we’ve made to our growing investment banking platform in the Americas,” said Jim Glascott, Head of Investment Banking & Debt Capital Markets, Americas. “We’re pleased to welcome them to the firm and look forward to the role they will play in building our energy investment banking franchise from our new office in Houston.”

Messrs. Gatto and Johnson and the team join Barclays Capital’s recently established Houston presence, working alongside members of the firm’s Commodities business. The combination of energy investment banking and a leading commodities platform provides clients with a full complement of sector-specific products and services, including a wide range of investment and derivatives vehicles across the commodities spectrum. Underscoring its recognition as a leader in the industry, Barclays Capital was named “Best Commodities House” by Euromoney in 2007 and “Commodity and Energy Derivatives House of the Year” by Risk in 2008.

Joe Gatto joins Barclays Capital from Merrill Lynch & Co. where he worked for the last 11 years, most recently as a Managing Director in the Global Energy Investment Banking Group in Houston. He holds a M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. from Cornell University.

Russell Johnson joins Barclays Capital from Deutsche Bank Securities in Houston, where he served as a Managing Director in the Natural Resources Investment Banking Group since 2004.
