American Petro-Hunter Provides Drilling Update
Thursday, September 24, 2009
American Petro-Hunter, Inc. announces the arrival of the drill rig at the Victory Gas Project with an earlier than anticipated spud of the Archer-Myers #1 Well at the Randal Island North Prospect taking place today. The 7,900 well is expected to take approximately 10 days to reach Total Depth (TD). Victory is located approximately 20 miles south of the city of Sacramento and is within the "Eastside Stratigraphic Trend" along the southern edge of the Sacramento Valley.
Victory Gas targets a well defined AVO anomaly from three sands with a cumulative thickness of 54 feet that appear to contain gas. Total gas from the Randal Island North Prospect is estimated at 3.567 BCF. The Company and operator have taken advantage of a logistical opportunity that allowed for a schedule change to the sequence of wells which advances the drill schedule and improves our overall strategic planning.
In related news, American Petro-Hunter reports that in Kansas the drilling program at the #2 Lutters well on the Poston Prospect, Trego County has reached the final stage of preparation with drilling to commence this evening. As previously reported #2 Lutters is planned for 4,500 feet and is an off-set development project to the #1 Lutters well that has been in production since June. The #2 Lutters well is targeting the producing oil horizon in the Mississippi Dolomite and this second location shows similar 3D Seismic highs which pinpoint an oil bearing zone. Drilling operations should take approximately 5 days to reach total depth (TD), after which testing of the well will take place.
These wells are the first in a series of ambitious projects representing our fall drilling program. The Company is committed to drilling five oil and gas wells over the next sixty days. American Petro-Hunter plans to drill and if successful, complete and tie-in 2 gas wells in California and 3 oil wells in Kansas during this period.
