Plains Exploration & Production Company (NYSE:PXP) is an independent oil and gas company headquartered in Houston, Texas and is actively involved in the upstream sector of the energy industry. The company's main operations are in California, where they are the fifth largest producer of crude oil.
Core areas of operation are:
- the Los Angeles and San Joaquin Basins onshore California;
- the Santa Maria Basin offshore California;
- the Gulf of Mexico;
- the Gulf Coast region, including the Haynesville Shale and South and East Texas;
- the Mid-Continent region in Texas and Oklahoma; and
- the Wind River Basin in the Rocky Mountains.
