Description
Nippon Oil Exploration Limited (NOEX) was established in 1968 as the E&P subsidiary of Nippon Oil Co., Ltd. (NOC) when NOC launched an oil exploration project in the Japan-Korea Joint Development Zone in the East China Sea. Since then NOEX has carried out various E&P projects around the world.
Mitsubishi Oil Co., Ltd. (MOC) enhanced its E&P activities in the late 1980s and developed a number of successful projects in the 1990s.
Following the merger of NOC and MOC (the merged company was initially called Nippon Mitsubishi Oil Corporation and was renamed as Nippon Oil Corporation in 2002), the companies's E&P activities were amalgamated in 2000 to form a strong portfolio that is now controlled and managed by the enlarged NOEX. Nippon Oil Exploration are active in ten countries and operate a number of projects in Vietnam, Malaysia and the Gulf of Mexico.
NOEX have selected the UK, the US and South East Asia as focus areas where they intend to strengthen their current position. The company also plan to establish footholds in the Middle East and North Africa.
Natural Gas is another focus business in view of environmental considerations. NOEX are developing gas fields in Malaysia to feed Malaysia's third LNG project (MLNG Tiga) and are also involved in the Tangguh LNG project in Indonesia.
