Marathon's exploration activities are focused on two different, but complementary programs. Exploration in core producing areas is focused on growth where the technical risk is lower and the results more repeatable. Marathon also will continue to high-grade its deepwater exploration programs where the technical risk is higher, but the reward potential is greater. The company's primary deepwater efforts are focused on Angola, the Gulf of Mexico and Indonesia.
Marathon's production operations are based on three continents: North America, Europe and Africa. The Company's principal activities in the United States are in: Alaska, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas,Wyoming and the Gulf of Mexico. The European Business Unit manages operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway, while operations in Africa comprise production assets in Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Libya.
