Maersk Oil

Description

Mærsk Olie og Gas AS (Maersk Oil) is a company owned by A.P. Møller - Mærsk A/S, and is part of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group.

Maersk Oil was established in 1962, when Mr A. P. Møller was awarded the concession for oil and gas exploration and production in Denmark. In 2003, the concession period was extended from 2012 until 2042 and terms and conditions were adjusted as of 1 January 2004.

Maersk Oil has production in Denmark, Qatar, Great Britain and Kazakhstan, and participates in production activities in Algeria without being the operator. The company also conducts exploration activities in the Danish, British and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea, and in Algeria, Angola, Oman, Brazil and the USA (the Gulf of Mexico).

Turning marginal and challenging fields into a commercial success has been a cornerstone of Maersk Oil’s business since our company was founded in 1962.

We developed groundbreaking technologies while working with tight chalk reservoirs in the Danish North Sea, and enabled Denmark to become an oil and gas producing country. Later, these technologies were deployed around the globe allowing us to become a truly global player in the upstream business.

Maersk Oil is now producing oil from the Danish and UK sections of the North Sea, Qatar, Algeria and Kazakhstan. It conducts exploration activities in those areas as well as offshore Norway, the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, Angola and Oman.

We will grow our reserves base by deploying and further developing our technologies in already known geographical areas like the North Sea. At the same time we will make technological step-outs enabling us to master new technologies such as deepwater operation and Enhanced Oil Recovery. This combination ensures that we keep our leading position in our core countries and also create opportunities in new areas such as West Africa and the US Gulf of Mexico.
