Formed in 1997, Arrow Energy is focussed on the early discovery of economic gas reserves close to existing pipelines, infrastructure and gas markets on the east coast of Australia. This strategy has been expanded to encompass boutique markets and gas consumers. To this end Arrow's tenements are close to the east coast gas markets.
Arrow's strategy for the past year has been to position itself as a major participant in the Surat Basin Coal Bed Methane (CBM) province. Arrow identified early the need for major new gas supply sources for the rapidly growing Queensland power and industrial market. The validity of this strategy has been reinforced by the announcement of the Queensland Government's energy policy requiring 13% of the electricity in Queensland to be generated from gas-fired sources.
In July 2001, Arrow acquired 55% of Australian CBM Pty Ltd, a company with substantial Surat Basin Walloon Coal Measures CBM prospects. This acquisition positioned Arrow as the largest net acreage holder 14,000 sq km in the Surat Basin Walloon Coal Measures CBM play.
Arrow has been able to acquire or apply for interests covering three project areas covering the Hillsborough Trough, the Styx Basin and the Nagoorin Graben in the Northern and Central Queensland Coast.
